October 6, 2004 John Lennon Would Have Been 64.

When I’m Sixty-Four.

John Lennon – Paul McCartney.

When I get older losing my hair,

Many years from now,

Will you still de sending me a Valentine

Birthday greetings bottle of wine?

If I’d be out till quarter to three

Would you lock the door?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me,

When I’m sixty-four?
You’ll be older too,

And if you say the word,

I could stay with you.
I could be handy, mending a fuse

When your lights have gone.

You can knit a sweater by the fireside,

Sunday morning go for a ride,

Doing the garden, digging the weeds;

Who could ask for more?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me,

When I’m sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight,

if it’s not too dear.

We shall scrimp and save

Grandchildren on your knee –

Vera, Chuck and Dave.

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,

Stating point of view,

Indicate precisely what you mean to say,

Yours sincerely, wasting away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form,

Mine for evermore.

Will you still need me, will you still feed me,

When I’m sixty-four?

The Beatles’s Albums.

A quartet of extraordinarily talented British musicians inspired a worldwide frenzy of Beatlemania, perhaps primarily because they projected the self-image of the 1960s teenager. Working-class musicians, the three guitarists in the group John Lennon (Oct. 9, 1 940-Dec. 8. 1980), Paul McCartney (born June 18, 1942) and George Harrison (born Feb. 25. 1943) first played together as schoolboys with the Quarrymen. In the late 1950s the group was renamed Johnny and the Moondogs, the Moonshiners, then the Silver Beatles (a wordplay on the musical term beat that also paid tribute to rocker Buddy Holly's Crickets). They had been performing in small clubs in Liverpool and in Hamburg, West Germany, when the original drummer was replaced in 1962 by Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkcy, July 7, 1940). All four Beatles were from Liverpool. The Beatles' first record 'Love Me Do', written by Lennon and McCartney in 1957 was released in October 1962. By the time they led the so-called British invasion of the United States in 1964 The Beatles held the top five spots on the singles recording charts and they released their first film, 'A Hard Day's Night1. They also shot their second film "HELP" in 1965. As trend-setters, they popularised long hair, mod dress, hallucinogenic drugs. Indian music, and Eastern mysticism.

The later Beatles albums were like variety shows a miscellany of rock, blues, country, folk, ballads, and social commentary, nursery rhymes. 1920s parodies, and satires of other pop groups, with an occasional injection of surrealism. Most of their material was credited to Lennon and McCartney as a team. Their most acclaimed works were the innovative Revolver (I 966); the single-concept album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967); the exuberant "White Album," The Beatles (1968); and their last joint effort, Abbey Road (1969). (Let It Be; issued in 1970. had been delayed for simultaneous release with a film and book.)

The last concert appearance of the Beatles was in San Francisco in 1966. Amid public quarrels and lawsuits, the singing idols officially broke up in 1970. Lennon had begun recording with his second wife, the avant-garde conceptual artist Yoko Ono, and McCartney formed the successful soft-rock group Wings with his wife, Linda. Harrison and Starr also recorded solo albums. Many people hoped that they would gather again, but all their hopes were destroyed when John Lennon was murdered in New York on the 8th of December in 1980. Since that moment all of them realised that this " Magician Fourth " would never gather again.

Have You Heard About The Beatles?

John Lennon’s hobby was writing stories. They have a lot of word-plays and neologisms. Here are some of his literary experiences, translated into Russian:

Среди многих скучаев в моей заливной книжке примечательна запись о даже дливом дне, что стоял в городке Гастроно графства Вшир в конце Кошмарта одна тысяча восемьсот девяносто второго года. Мы сид ели за обедом, как вдруг Шерлок Хамс получает телемаму. Он смолчал, но я заметил, что брови его нахмырились, лицо поселезнело. Сглотив кекст, он оборотился ко мне, хитро дядя прищученными глазами.

To Clive Barrow it was just an ordinary day nothing unusual or strange about it, everything quite navel, nothing outstanley just another day but to Roger it was something special, a day amongst days ... a red lettuce day ... because Roger was getting married and as he dressed that morning bethought about the' gay batchelor soups he'd had with all his pals. And Clive said nothing. To Roger everything was different, wasn't this the day his Mother had told him about, in his best suit and all that, grimming and shakeing hands, people tying boots and ricebudda on his car.To have and to harm ... till death duty part... he knew it all off by hertz. Clive Barrow seemed oblivious. 'Roger could visualise Anne in her flowing weddy drag, being wheeled up the aisle, smiling a blessing. He had butterflield in his stomarce as he fastened his bough tie and brushed his hairs. «I hope I'm doing the right thing» he thought looking in the mirror, «Am I good enough for her?» Roger need not have worried because he was, «Should I have flowers all round the spokes» said Anne polishing her foot rest. «Or should I keep it syble?» she continued looking down on her grain haired Mother.«Does it really matter?» repaid her Mother wearily wiping her sign. «He won't be looking at your spokes any way.» Anne smiled the smile of someone who's seen a few laughs. Then luckily Annes father came-home from sea and cancelled the husband.

he results of the opinion poll in our town showed that the people of all age categories know and love The Beatles.

Get back, Amanda!

The 22-nd of October was a remarkable day for our

Lyceum. The pupils of the 9th, 10th and 11th forms

had a meeting with Amanda an American girl, who

came to Uryupinsk with Ira Pozhar, a former pupil

of our English teacher Tamara Andreyevna Sandalova.

The meeting was held in our St. Petersburg classroom.

The atmosphere was very friendly. We enjoyed

listening to the native speaker. She told us about herself, her family and her native town. We also showed her a film about our town. The commentary in English was made by the pupils of the 11th “A” form Anya Panteleyeva, Yulya Makryntseva and Vica Mazurova. Amanda was watching it with great interest. Then we went on talking. We asked questions about their traditions, holidays, sports, hobbies, school, and everyday life. We spoke even about the differencies between the American and Russian food. We all took part in the conversation. We showed Amanda a commercial of the Beatles’s song “When I’m Sixty Four” made by the pupils of the 11th “A” form Ksenya Arbuzova, Alexander Fyodorov and Alexander Ivanov. Then sitting in a circle we were singing “Yesterday” and other famous songs of The Beatles. It seemed that we knew each other for a long time. We understood that learning English is very important. At parting we showed her our Lyceum. Anya Panteleyeva, Yulya Makryntseva and Vica Mazurova from the 11th “A” form were her guides.

Come to our place again, Amanda!

Get back!
